It’s Snowshoe Month!
Skiing and biking are in our dna. It’s in the name even, Hobby Wheel Ski and Bike. But it’s not everything that we offer for your adventures. And it’s about time that we celebrate one of those lesser-shown sports - Snowshoeing! For the whole month, We’ll be featuring great sales, tips and tricks, and even some great opportunities to get out on the trails or try out some new snowshoes!
Why?
Well, plenty of people know about snowshoeing. They might have a set themselves, or maybe one of their friends goes once and a while. But, how much do you actually know about snowshoeing? Do you know where there are trails locally? Do you know about the difference in snowshoe lengths and what they mean? It’s finally time for snowshoeing to get more spotlight!
Where?
Of course, all of the snowshoe love in the world doesn’t mean anything if you don’t know where to go! Thankfully, there are quite a few good places to snowshoe locally, and for anybody who’s seen our summer biking content, some of these places will sound very familiar.
The most accessible place for most people is miners park. This map may look familiar to many of you, and that’s because it is. The snowshoe trails run along most of the summer biking trails, while there is groomed trails alongside the XC ski trails. Much like the summer biking trails, the snowshoe trails are good for picking your own path, and making many smaller loops, as most of the loops are shorter, and interconnect many times with other routes, giving you a true choose your own adventure as you snowshoe around the park.
Next up is wolverine, who offers both amazing XC ski trails and snowshoe trails. Unlike miners park, wolverine has some different routes for their snowshoe trails, instead of just running on the same trails as their mountain bike trails. They also offer some groomed sections of trail, while others are snowshoe only and may not be packed after large storms.
Last but not least is ABR trails. Unlike the other two, ABR does not feature summer biking trails, instead having a world-class XC ski network. Their snowshoe loops, while not as extensive as the XC ski ones, are still nothing to scoff at, providing plenty of trail for all abilities to go and enjoy.
Of course there are other places to go snowshoe, for example Winman, known for their mountain biking, does have snowshoeing trails, but with the quality of closer local trails it’s less worth of the drive.
Naturally you can also go around your own yard and pack your own trail, giving you true freedom on where you want to go and what trails you want to snowshoe
